I'm working on adding a winch mount and winch to the front of my YJ and while removing the bolts one snapped off. Should I drill out the hole? or is there a better way? Also I will have to make new threads for the hole then right? Should I just go ahead and make new threads for the rest of the holes since everything is kinda rusty? What are those kits called that do that? I know I should know but I can't think of it right now heh :shaking: thanks for any help guys!
^^^this is you best bet, but if it was that seized to snap a bolt head, then it may still be pretty seized. So a couple good cycles of heat and penetrating oil should help to free the threads before you weld a bolt/nut, or even try to "ezee out" it.
If the bolt snapped off, I would assume that the threads are still fine. Just drill the center of the bolt and use an easy out.
Lots of WD-40 or penetrating oil.
Looks like you have a bit of stud left, lots of penetrating oil, NEW vise grips and a hammer, when you try to take them out hit the breaker bar or wrench instead of pulling straight out, have to "break up" the rust, and start using anti sieze. Can also try heating the area around the bolt with a torch. Lots of techniques for removing broken/stuck bolts.
Edit: if the threads are not completely gone, buy a GOOD tap and die set
