Hey guys. Doing some research. Just pulled the 400 out of my storage unit and its sitting in a garage ready to be worked on. pulled the covers, carb, intake, and oil pan. so far, so good. Seeing as though I dont have much money, i'm just going to clean it up, check the timing chain and re-seal it. i'll be putting my 4 bbl intake with a 4 bbl carb on as well. have headers for it too. I'm going from a tbi 305 in my 87 gmc half ton to the 400. it'll have a HD TH400 and np208 behind it (would rather np205, but not much funds available right now).
I keep getting mixed reviews. some people are telling me that tbi is way better - which i can agree with. but im seeing alot of, "theres no replacement for displacement". my old man used to build cars and trucks years ago and said i'll notice a huge difference with the 400 in comparison to the 305 and that its a torque monster.
So i've been doing some thinking...tbi 400? I realize i may be completely in left field here as im a n00b, but is this possible? maybe a system off of a 350 might work? or would that not be enough? i know the intake bolt holes are different for starters. just basically wondering if anyone had done this before or has any other info.
