i am toying with either using a 6.0 vortec motor, or my 383 i built for another project. the problem is, how user friendly will the 383 be? i would put fuel injection on it, what type i dont know yet. but anyways, would this motor, in your opinion, be friendly enough to drive on trails/rock crawling or no?
can you explain what you mean by "load up". I always thought that a stroked motor does not like to run a low RPM and you really only see the advantage in the higher RPM range. ( just want to learn)
Backward. The longer the stroke, the (marginally) better the torque. Longer stroke = lower RPM for a given size due to greater piston speed, greater rod bearing speed, and greater mixture velocity. The longer stroke engine will 'peak' lower, all other things being equal.
My concerns with the OP's engine in question center around the cam. That thing will be like driving a switch in the first place, it will probably be difficult to keep cool in the second place, and third - the cam will wear out in a big hurry at low RPM due to reduced oil flow and reduced rotation of the lifters (assuming it is not a roller cam).
Now, if you put a nice little wheeling cam in it, it's be a monster, though you'd need to run E85 or propane if you want to keep the 11.3:1 AND use a short, torque-monster cam.
Not to hijack, but Beat95, could you please explain your answer a little more? I think I can see how low gearing would mask, so to speak, the aggressive engine build, but how does the weight figure in? And what is the negative to a high compression ratio besides having to run high octane fuel?
It likely has a peaky abrupt power band, lacking in low end torque. Less weight will allow the engine to
Rev up not load up when it is pulling.
