shackle hanger Q?
i'm going to be getting new springs for my CJ-7 here soon and i need to rebuild the shackle hanger in front, and I was wondering if anybody has used an eye of a leaf spring as a shackle hanger? or would it be too weak?
![]() I'm going to be mounting it just in front and on the bottom of the front bumper just for an idea of how it will be mounted. It would be nice to not have any addittional lift i dont need

Just order one from Barnes or RuffStuff and get a much better design for not much $$$. The yahoo who owned my jeep before I got it did that and it was way ghetto.

Just a FYI, that's how many trailer spring shackles are mounted. Not using a piece of spring steel, but a piece of thicker mild steel rolled the same way.
I'm not recommending it, or saying it wouldn't work either. They're available in 1.5 inch, 1.75 inch and 2 inch IIRC. And they're cheap. |

The problem with using a part of a leaf spring is actually welding the spring steel. Many types of spring steels require a special electrode and a specific procedure for pre heat & post heat. You can pick shackle hangers up pretty cheap on places like DIY4X and RuffStuff Specialties along with countless others.

You can also make them pretty easily too. Especially if you are going to locate your springs directly under the frame. I did that with my Scout II and built these out of some 2" tube and 2" x 2" -1/4 wall sq tube.
![]() Welded them right to the bottom of my frame, shackle length yet to be determined.

I don't know about pricing for you, but I'm into those for less than 20 bucks total.
