R&P breakin?
Getting my jeep out of the shop next thursday from having the gears done. I know they'll tell me to break them in by heat cycles and not load shocking them for several days. I've had gears done before and always followed their advise, but does it really matter? Im going on a local riding/camping trip the day after my gears will be done. Do any of you think taking my jeep on that trip is a bad idea? Does "Breaking them in" really help them last longer?
Thanks |

57 people looked at this with no response? C'mon guys this is pirate! Someboby knows if breaking in gears is truth or hipe from shops not willing to cover damages after a regear.

I'm about o do the same thing as far as break-in. I wont take a chance on screwing up something that cost me that much to purchase and have installed.
While they might be fine (I don't know) it would suck to have them fail or whatever they do at the worst possible time. Or just taking life off of the gears themselves. My .02 |

If I paid someone else to install my gears, I'd follow their recommendations on break-in proceedures.
I did on my K-5, they're still going 5 years later.

When we rebuild diffs where I work, they get built, then test driven then test driven again for 10 miles during QC... other than that they don not get broken in. I've never broken in a set of my own gears and never had an issue.
