What sensor did I fawk up? (88' XJ 4.0L)

What is the senor below the water temp sensor on the driver side of the 4.0L in my 1988 XJ? It goes into the block. It is basically a screw, with a bunch of washers and non-metal washers and a couple prongs that a plug goes over.

Q2= More along the lines of 4x4 tech... What have you done to get your XJ home (off the trail) after breaking something in the rearend when you have a slip yoke? I have no plans on getting a SYE. If I were to upgrade, it would be Jess' long travel slip yoke drive line that he recommends for the NP231. So I'd still have to figure out how to go home in front wheel drive without losing all my t-case fluid. In other words, what do you plug the hole with? Kotex is not a valuble answer

There's a product called the Plugzit or something like that - it's basically a rubber stopper. Yank the shaft and jam that in there. About $12

Or, you can use a beverage can and some duct tape.

Kotex wouldn't be the answer anyway, as it would be absorbant and would deplete the quantity of fluids in the case.

LoL, some of those heavy duty bad boys might absorb the t-case and drain the auto right through the seal with the suction it would create. But we don't want to get into that discussion.

Anyone have a clue about that sensor? On Monday I'm going to go to the parts store, but It would be nice to know ahead of time, so I sound like I know what I'm talking about when I order the part..
