Rebuilding a Winch?
I have a warn MX6085 winch that was on my 4runner when i bought it, its pretty old and I think it may have been a factory option of some sort. Its a 6000lb winch. Ive run it a few times and when it sounds like it needs some sort of lubrication. The switch that allows you to free spool the winch is also stuck. What I want to know is, what do i need to do to rebuild it? is it worth it? Can i replace parts of it to upgrade it to an 800lb winch?
any help would be appreciated

I'm not sure what type of winch that is but I had a very old 8274, was actually a 8074. Bill's write up was very helpful.

I have it
I have a Warn MX 6085 on my cherokee. Just like yours, my free spool switch is stuck. I called warn and they told me it has a 6000lb capacity. This winch is no longer made but you can still find parts for it. Hope this helps.
