smog primer? - newbie question
Can someone give me (or point me to) a quick smog primer for CA?
I think if a vehicles older than xxx, you don't have to worry about smog? If you upgrade the engine (say wrangler to a V8) what issues do you need to worry about to stay smog legal? If the V8 is newer than the origional engine are you good to go? Ya, I'm new to CA, new to off road, and I did search on "smog". Thanks! |

I believe 1974 or older and it's exempt.
I believe if you swap a motor in CA the motor has to be newer than the vehicle so you would HAVE to swap in a newer motor.. I may be wrong on that though In order to pass inspection the engine has to be setup as it came from the factory, same with exhaust/intake/fuel I believe.. this has been covered a LOT and Brandon just got his passed / not passed (2 posts) recently... Don't forget stock indicator lights for hte engine too.. |
