Team Half Fast's new jeep

My friend and I, now known as team half fast, bought a 82 jeep wagoneer today, for $100, the body is in terrible shape but the 360 runs good and It has power everything. I am also told this has d 44's is this correct? We are planning to built it up, we have already cut the top off from behidn the drivers seat back, and will be buildign a cage on it soon. If any of you care to see it i'll post pics when I get some.. Just let me know

44s front and rear, unless the rear is an AMC 20, but in a waggy, the 20 is a good axle

just look at the rear axle.

If the cover looks like half a basketball, it's an AMC 20. Otherwise you can pretty much assume it's a 44

If its an 82 you are going to have a Model 20 in the rear. You are also going to have a NP229 transfer case which is a decent case for mild offroad and street but you aren't going to do any serious wheelin' with it.. if you want to learn about Wags you need to head over to www.ifsja.org. More info there then you will ever need... lots of chop top wags and cheros over there..

Unless it's an PO change, the rear end will be an AMC HD 20 with one piece axles, it's not a bad axle, very comparable to a 44.

Might be a NP208 or NP228.

208 is part-time: 2HI, N, 4HI, 4LO and the front D44 will have manual hubs.

228 is a full-time case with no LOCK (part-time) mode: 4 HI N 4LO although it may have a 2 HI also. I'm not positive.

228 was in 86 only. Stock choices for 82 would have been 208, 229, and 219.

Damn, Damn, Damn

I didn't care about your adventures in the chevette, or your hitting a tree w/ your nissan, but now you have a jeep. Just try to make sure nobody recognizes its a jeep b/c I know you'll be doing something stupid in it.

And oh yeah, M20 in the rear, 44 up front. You should be able to put Warn lock outs on the front. The '83 Waggies have a vacumm actuated D44, I don't thinkit can be it be converted, so you may want to look at the pumpkin to see if it has a solenoid since AMC was know to mix and match alot of parts.

The d 44 has lockout son it, and the t-case front out put shafts is on drivers saide, so its a 208 right? is also 6 lug. I have one more question I just purchased a set of axles from a 78 or 79 wagonner, passanger side diff. lockouts, 5 lug... What would these axles be? It aslo had a 360 in it. Oh and, what would the gear ration in these be?

BTW sorry my questions are kinda dumb, but I dont know much about the axles, I just know whats good and not, cant tell the differance yet. I had never owned a 4x4 until august of last year, so I'm still learning.

I was hoping they were 44's. What are 44's worth? I watched oen sell on ebay for $225. I gave the guy my 79 2wd ford with bad engine that I wanted $400 for, and he gave me these axles, springs, steeringbox, and $150.. good deal?
