What happened to locking hubs?
(1979 CJ5 258/T150/D20 D30/M20)
were locking hubs standard on all Jeep CJ's back in the day? Anyway i was under the impression they were... but my CJ-5 is pulling this shit up front... I didn't care for a while, but now i want to weld my 30, and i need to be able to unlock my hubs... i need to ask whats going on! Assuming its a stock 30, how many splines is it - ill need to know when looking for a warn locking hub. But what do i need for the thing? Just the locking hubs for 80 bucks, or warn's whole "locking hub kit" for a couple hundred more... i figure that depends in whether mine is setup for it, any way to tell from that picture? its got the 6 bolt hub business happening. I know this will probly result in me taking it apart and looking for myself, but i figured i would ask... |

What you have are drive flanges. Send them to me! When you call whoever for hubs just tell them you need 6 bolt external hubs for a Cj. Send me the drive flanges! The same hubs will also fit scouts and are pretty common. Did I mention that I have been looking for some drive flanges? You dont need a hub "kit" all you have to do is unbolt the drive flanges (send them to me) and bolt on the new hubs. No conversion necessary.

btw, kwranglin... im trying to find hubs in my price range, if i can get a good deal ill send you them... but as of now i cant seem to get a set under 100 bucks, i might try to sell the flanges to offset the cost if i cant get them atleast under 100!
My biggest consideration is that after welding the 30, i have no idea how long it will last.......... Eventually i will end up destroying it! and the investment in sparkling new warn hubs will see pretty dumb, as im sure they wont fit on a 44 or whatever goes in next. so id like to find a set of used hubs on ebay or something. if you have hubs now that would help me, ill send you the flanges plus $$$ to even it out. |

Dont have but one spare layin around or I'd trade ya strait across. Heres an Idea tho. I know cj knuckles will bolt to a 44 housing (got em on my early bronco 44 housing now) so it should work the other way. Get a set of 44 knuckles and outers, run the 44 internal spline hubs, then when you upgrade to the 44 housing you already have the outers built. Might have to do some checking on compatability, but it should work and make it possible to build up in stages. I know scout 44 stubs fit cj hubs, not sure about waggy or ford hubs, but someone around here will. Check Billavista's page I think he used 44 knuckles on his xj 30 front at one point.
Just keep me in mind when you go to get rid of those flanges.
