Transfer case question
Hi everybody!
I am a newbie to the board and a new Jeep owner, although I've wanted one all my life. Here is the one I just bought (I got it after seeing it online): 87 Jeep Cherokee It needs some work, especially the transfer case. It leaks and there appears to be 4 different transfer cases for Cherokees. The problem is, I don't know which it is. How can I find this out? Thanks. I appreciate the help. Dave |

Step one, crawl underneath and look for the round tag on the rear of your transfercase just to the driverside of the rear output, it will tell you what model it is.
Step two, move this to the newbie section immediatly, that is where it belongs. Step three, read the jeep talk mission statement. Step four, lurk for a while to see just what the hell you have gotten yourself into. Welcome newb, now move this chit.

Its likely a 231 or 242.
But find that round tag on the back of it. Kinda up and to the left of the rear shaft. Can be difficult to read, but itll say it on there. Welcome to the board.
