I have a friend who is selling a 1989 jeep wrangler, and I just wanted to find out some more info on it. What kind of axles, transfer case, tranny, whats good, whats bad, it has a 4 banger, it is locked in the back, and geared, no hard or soft top, DO YOU GUYS KNOW HOW MUCH ITS WORTH

THANKS
LOU

2.5L 4 cylinder
D30 front axle, smaller 260x joints
D35 rear axle, possibly non c-clip version
NP231 tcase, 2.72:1 low range
AX-5 tranny
4.10 gears (stock)

With no roof and 14 years old, least desireable YJ made IMO, maybe $2000 if in excellent condition. Look at other Jeeps in your area for pricing.

Least desirable?? Maybe after the '87 model, haha...for a street rig, the 2.5l is better than the problemtaic carb'd 4.2l
IMO I'd say it is good for at least $3K across most of CA.

best of luck...

Easier to put Mopar injection on the 4.2L than it is to swap engines/trans/tcase out of the 2.5L.

(Edit) DOH, forgot about the peugeot transmissions in the early 4.2's. I'd take the 4 banger over one of those.

PM Kieth Strong on this board, I know he's looking to build a YJ and it sounds like this is one he might want since he's going to swap the whole drivetrain out anyways.
