I'm in the process of putting in a smittybuilt front hoop for a cj with padded dash in my 93 YJ. I'll keep ya updated, but its been done before with write ups. Search and ye shall find.
Just for a possible hint, I think Bostonwrangler (not sure of the spelling) did a write up on it.

CHeck out the Tennessee Off Road Roll cage. They are pretty nice, especially for the price.
If you don't have access to a welder, look at the MORE cage kit. It is a bolt in kit, and you can get the frame tie in, but you have to weld that in. A friend of mine welded up his MORE bolt in kit. It help through a pretty nasty roll over, before he welded it. ANd he didn't have the frame tie in at the time either.

I put the smittybuilt hoop in my 95 I got the one for cj with padded dash and soft top. It's 2" tube same as the stock rear hoop and it ended up sitting above the windshield slightly. Double-check the height before welding. I would have trimmed it had I noticed, but it does not interfere with my soft top. Don't have a hard top. The guy that helped me put it in got the one for cj with padded dash and hardtop. His came in 1.75" tube and sat alittle lower than mine. Paid $109 for the hoop and 2 spreaders at 4WPW. Pick up some extra tube to add a few more bars for a cheap full cage.
