Which tranny do I need?
Ok Guys, here's my problem. I've got a 60 Willys (CJ5) with a 327 transplanted in it. The motor runs strong but the stock three speed tranny with Warn overdrive seems to be the weak link. It was rebuilt at a shop about 20k ago but now pops out of second gear when decellerating.
I am considering a swap to a stronger gearbox but need advice on which one and what problems I will encounter along the way. The Jeep will be mostly used for a hunting vehicle but some off road use is not out of the question. I want to be able to hammer on the throttle and not worry about blowing the gearbox up. Let me know what you think. Thanks--Rob |

i take it this is a chevy 327? or amc?
with the chevy, an SM465 would be a good transmission. they're cheap, easy to find and nearly indestructable. 4 speed with a granny low 1st gear |

I put a 465/205 behind the 350 in my 60 Wag. Works great and nearly indestructable. If you go to the 465 make sure you get the correct bellhousing.
