Ranger hub and D30 hub interchangeabililty
Here's the deal, a few weeks ago, I shattered my D30 hublock, but, the internals are fine.....I know that the Ranger hub won't work because of the different spline counts, but someone suggested to swap the internals out,....does anybody think this will work as Ranger hubs are a dime a dozen and the replacement hubs for the conversion kit that I have ain't cheap.

well, depending on the year of the dana 30, it might be possible since the later 30's used the 760x joint like the HP35.
If you do get it to work, make sure you use the good hubs. The stock ford ones aren't great, and neither are any of the aftermarket ones for the ford. Warn part number 37780 is what you want, they are a direct replacement for the ford ones, but are made for the 35C full floater kit, and are stronger.

The splines ARE the same (27)
That is, unless you put 30 spline stuff on it Edit: Early Rangers ('83-'89) were 23 spline teeny-weenie stuff. But as Jrod already mentioned, the regular stuff is weaker than the Warn Jeep-specific stuff (which also will fit the Explorer/ranger as well).

I'm running the hub conversion on a TJ, so I have the 297's. The only part of the ford hub that I'll use is the housing itself, I'd take all of the internals out of the ford housing and put the TJ hub conversion internals in the Ford hub,....just using it as a spare.
Here's a pic of the blown hublock, you can see that the internals look fine.

Just like 4x4Junkie said, the splines are the same. I got a brand new Ford hub off of ebay for $5 and test fit it yesterday. The hub locks and unlocks and appears to work fine. I'm just going to throw it in the "spare stuff" box and use it if I need it.

I did get a replacement from Warn, so right now, I'm good to go, I'll just keep the Ford hub as a spare.
