Cuting the top off K5
Has enybody ever cut the top off there Blazer?I have cut doors to make replacements for 73-75 blazers.I want to cut the top off my 76k5.has enybody out there ever done this?I was thinking of trying to make it so that a soft top for a 73-75 would work.i was also wondering if I need a full cage to keep the body from doing something wierd.Let me know if enyone did this. Thanks JB

It's been done, you'd probibly want a roll bar over your head through, just for safety.
The bodies are ify, they have the strength in them to maintain there resiliance, and not warp. But you'll have more twist, and eventually not be able to shut your doors. My suggestion, would be, cut the roof off, and replace it with a rollbar that's attached to the frame. Or put a 2" body lift or so, and incorporate the cage into that, you could run pipe under the body, as your lift, and hoop it over head. That way you could run poly bushings to dampen the noise it would produce.. Good luck..

69-75 full convertible blazers had "rocker boxes" that were used to stiffen the body, since there was no connecting roof to do that job. i know someone is going to make repop rocker boxes for first gen blazers, as they seem to be a common rust area...so perhaps they already make repops for 2nd gens, or maybe you could get a used set from a rust free area and swap them into yours. or make a set.
you might not even have to do this if you make your 'cage correctly.
