This is a completely retarded question... but are the bellhousings on the 999 and 904 the same? So I could technically grab a 999 off an older CJ and bolt everything to my 2.5L without any adapters?

The bell housing is diffrent on the 4 cylinder trannys.
you can not use one off a 4.0 or other 6 cylinder model. I just pulled mine while swaping in a 4.0 and new transmission. but the posted spline is correct. 23 spline on all autos. Your tranny should be a 30RH look here http://www.off-road.com/jeep/tech/trans/
