Custom length shafts

I have a stock rear 60 that I want to narrow a bit to fit better under my chassis, I have the stock shafts that were in it, my question is...if I were to cut say 2" from each side and narrow it ~4", when I order my custom shafts, would I be able to take the measurements stock and take off 2" from each shaft and be ok with that measurement?

I know its a bone head question, but I just need confirmation.

Talk to the guys whom are making your custom shafts.....
They should be able to tell you what to do.

Why not just cut down the shafts you have?
