AN Hose Assembly
I've never messed with braided hose before until I got some Russell Powerflex brake line for my heep. My question is, how do you assemble the ends? There is the end that has the fitting on it, a brass ferule, and a nut to tighten the fitting. However, it appears that the ferule is too small. It keeps the fitting from going into the hose. Do I need to pull back some of the braided steel and expose the hose? Or am I just retarted and missing something stupid? (Probably the case.)
The hose size is -3AN if that makes a difference. Thanks, Jay |

I also did this for my brakes. It is a little tricky, but easier as you go. You slide the nut over the whole hose and then then the ferule will go between the braided part and the hose. Then as you tighten the part with the fitting onto the nut you put over the hose make sure you keep plenty of pressure on the hose to make sure it doesn't just push back out. Hope that makes sence.

It is a pain, but here is a quick rundown on assembling teflon hose.
After cutting, use a awl to round out the teflon inner core. 1. Slide the nut over the outer braid of the hose. 2. Peel the braid back from the teflon. 3. Insert the ferrule between the braid and teflon. Push until it fully seats. 4. Insert the barb into the ferrule. 5. Screw the nut onto the hose end. Take your time as frayed stainless wire bites hard.

I prefer Russells universal pre-crimped hoses in various lengths with adapter ends.
