tire width vs wheel size
is it ok to put a tire that is recommended to have a 9.75" wide wheel on a 8.25" wide wheel?
I know the recommendation is there for a reason, but i also know the 4x4 world sets their own standards. the wheels and tires in question are 37/12.5/16.5 Super Swamper SSRs, and the wheels are H1 16.5x8.75 beadlocks w/ runflats.

The wider the rim the shorter the tire will stand and the wider the tire will be. As long as you stay with in 4 inches on 12.50s and 5 inches on 14.50 you should be OK. I have seen 14.50 run on an 8 inch wheel without problems, but I would not recommend it.

FWIW the rule ive heard for a dual duty rig is to try and run a rim 2/3 the width of the tire if that helps you any. I run 35x12.50r15 SSRs on 15x8 and it wears pretty even for me. I also know 16.5 rim sizes lack a saftey bead like most rim sizes do and i'm not sure how that would affects this situation if it even does.

are you sure these are 16.5" X 8.75" wheels? I have only seen 16.5" X 9.75" Hummer wheels. The beadlock for these wheels is 7" wide. I have bought and sold several sets and they all were 16.5 X 9.75 with a 7" beadlock/runflat. Please re-measure and post up what you find, I would like to know if there are more sizes than just the 9.75" wide hummer wheel.
Thanks, JJ |

I agree, i thought all were 9.75, here's what i found:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT I emailed the guy and was told that 8.25 is stamped into the wall of the wheel. I'm not bidding on them anymore.
