A cry for help

Hello, long-time lurker, first time poster. I Have an 86 XJ with 3" lift, 2.8/904/207 combo. In the shed sits a 231 and front double cardan driveshaft from a 87 model. I plan to swap the 231 in later on, but for now just want to swap in the front shaft (right now I have the stick-in-a-can style that hates to be quiet). I'm looking for details on this swap. From what I understand the yokes will interchange between the 207 and the 231, but I can't get a straight answer from anybody on whether the shaft needs modification. It looks to be slightly longer, but will the 3" lift take up some of that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
