04 chevy wheel question

I was told that a 16x8 rockcrawler will not clear the brakes on my 04 silverado 1500 ext cab 4x4. Is this true? The guy said I need 17's. I thought it might be BS, and them trying to get more money out of me.

That's what I told him, but he said it was a problem with the Rock Crawlers. Thanks.
