engine is spitting up
I'm posting this question for my dad. He has a 71 fj40 with a chevy 327, and a sm465 tranny. He says whenever he drives it in 1st gear, it runs fine, when he puts it into 2nd and 3rd gear, it spits gas through the carb. Any ideas of why it's doing this? The engine was bulit in 73, and no clue how many miles is on the thing. Would he be better off rebuilding it, or getting a new engine?

Rebuild the carb. Sounds like the needle and seat for the float are bad.
