tires and front 60... how big..

stock late 80's chevy 60 in a poop piped cj-7. haven't taken the time to pull it apart and verify splines..

so how big can they handle with a 318/auto/4:1/5.13's in solid rock with a midweight foot before we have to chromo them?

39's?
42's?

I run a welded full width DRW D60 front stock outers (30 spline?), mild 350, with 39.5 Boggers. Haven't had any problems yet, and I piss pound that truck. My buddy on the other hand has a SRW D60 with 70 outers, 425 horse 383, and 44 TSL's with an even heavier foot than me and his isn't holding up too well... I think most of it has to do with driving style. Do you hit rocks and walls hammering on the gas, or do you let off right before you hit? Are you on the gas when the tires come back down from a wheelie? I'm not, but my buddy is. Go figure.

Stock 89 chevy front 60, non neck down inners, 30 spline outters. Chevy 350, ~325hp, 180:1 crawl ratio, 39.5" TSLs at 4psi. Only had it out twice like that, but I had to hammer down a few times and landed on the throttle several times. No breakage, but I haven't checked the shafts for twisting or anything yet.

I'd say you shouldn't break too often on 40's, 42's may be ok with a slightly more conservative driver.

I'm coming off of Toy axles, and I am sick of breaking shit. So I got 35 spline 4340's throughout with CTM's and Polyperformance drive flanges. Gonna run some 42's.

D60 front is strong. You can always upgrade the axles. I am going to run 39.5 rockers on a stock d60. My buddy runs 42" Irocs on his, an he beats the hell out of his with no breakage.

If you dont wanna work on your shit on the trail, just go ahead and chromo them with some CTM's and forget about it. Then you can worry about something else breaking.
