motor in my 8274 dead?

i believe my motor for my 8274 is dead. i know the solenoid pack is good and i have tested the setup even without the soleniod pack on.

basically the stator seems ok and it developes its field fine, but the armature seems to be a dead short. the cables get real hot and the armature just freezes like it is an electric load holding brake in both power in and out setings.

the motor is a prestolite mbj 4401, is this a 2 or 4.6 horse motor? can just the armature be replaced? can this be fixed? it doesn't look smoked but i can see the potential for where it may have failed.
