Major Newb ? About Gear Strength
( Flame suit on )
Not sure but shouldn't a Dana 60 gear set be able to handle a driveshaft u-joint breaking under very little throttle with a 4.0L? Running 5.38 Reverse thick gears in the rear diff and seem to have chipped the pinion. Yukon gears if that matters. only ones I could find that made 5.38 reverse thick. |

keep in mind there was a sudden change in speed between 2 moving parts, something gave. If you've only chipped the pinion a little, I wouldn't worry about it. Just stick it back together and run it. However, more than a little damage may call for a part replacement.

Just thought maybe there was something else. When I called my local supllier he contacted Yukon and said they had a couple sets recently that did the same but not sure what gear sets those were. Oh well. Thanks for the input guys. |
