Chevy Suspension Q.s.... Flex = a joke

Well as you may know, I got a free 1976 chevy stepside c10 for free.

It's got basic stuff done to it, rancho suspension lift (5 inches? not sure if its rancho either, but it has rancho shocks), and it's REALLY STIFF. REALLY REALLY stiff. my 94 corolla probably has more flex than it. I also plan on going with a 14 bolt in the rear with a detroit in it.

Well I'm a noob to chevies (was gonna get a yota) and I was wandering what everyone was running for springs. I don't wanna do a 4 link with coils/coilovers because of no funds and it would be a pain in the ass for me to do. Also, this needs to be a daily driver. I was hoping to find out which springs provide decent flex, how much lift, etc. I don't want to hack my fenders (i won't do it to this truck) and I hope to run at least 35s or maybe 37s+. I don't want the truck to be a monster in height either.

What about gears? If i get a 14 bolt then i'll need to regear it for new tires. Right now it has 3.07s with 33s... what do you guys think I should run for a daily driver? The engine has a few mods done, 650 cfm rochester quadrajet, edelbrock performer intake manifold, performer cam, headers, dual flowmasters. Yes it sucks down the gas.

Thanks in advance.

also, what's with the upside down shackle in the back?

Could build a shackle hanger below the frame, weld it on, then mount the springs to them? with a custom built spring hanger in the front obviously.

I'm running 6" genuine suspension springs on the front, and thy flex decent. But I am also running a big block and have a 12k winch hanging off the nose. The lifted rear springs may as well just be chunks of solid steel. They do sell kits for the rear shackle flip, which adds 5" I think to the rear utilizing stock springs.

yeah, i'm running a 350 and nothing else up front.

I want some good, high quality springs to run on a good suspension setup. I don't want it to be rolling over on each turn yet they need to be able to flex. I know these are contradicting, but there is a happy medium. I'm thinking of just going with some alcans, but they're expensive.

what are some common setups?

I don't know much about chevies but it seems like a lot of guys run rear leafsprings up front to gain a ton of flex and firewall clearance (moves the axle forwards a few inches)

But you will need to do a crossover steering setup as well. Offroad design sells a conversion kit for the rear which turns the tension style shackle into a normal setup gaining 4" of lift. Then you can run a relatively flat rear spring to gain flex.

Try getting onto coloradoK5.com forums or the chevy forum here. Lurk around and see what springs and configurations people are doing. Good luck with the build.

Chevies suck, Toyotas rule

Common, toyotas and chevies are friends (why do you think yotas do the 4.3 and 350 engine swaps?). You wanna be hating the jeeps.

And BTW, I don't have any stock springs.
