more problems with the 78 f150

i was driving it the other day and going down the road i started to hear a grinding noise, seems to come in when i hold it at a steady speed above 40mph, at first i thoght it was in the motor but i tossed it in nutral and it was still grinding.

things ive checked...

wheels bearings.
hubs.
tranny/t-case fluids.
u-joints.
ring gear/pinion.

nothing had metal shavings, all fluid levels were fine and clean. what the hell am i missing, the truck has no front d-shaft at the moment so i cant check if it does it in 4x4

Brakes....

I was having a bad grinding noise from the front of my '79, turned out the caliper had partially stuck. This caused the brake pad to wear away and it was grinding the brake pad backing into the rotor. Same this can happen on the rear (although less likely), so check both.

You need to narrow it down alot. Is it in the front/rear/left/right???? Jack it up and start spinning/shacking stuff

its not the brakes, i would have noticed that when i had the hubs apart, and i cant narrow it down, i have checked over and over and cant find out where its from, but if i was to guess its coming somewhere from the right side of the truck but i have a hard time hearing exactly where its coming from.

Wheels aren't rubbing anywhere? Nothing hanging down touching the tires. Anything in the knuckles, left a screw driving in there? I've left one in the knuckle get the hubs back together, just missed it, bent it all to hell, but didn't break anything, it made an aweful noise.

If you can't narrow down where it is coming from try having someone else drive next to you and look and listen. Maybe they can pinpoint the noise for you.
