Dana 60 Balljoints

I have done the search, read lots of threads for about an hour and am still confused and have questions. I can't find any dana 60's here in MO. Trust me the majority have all been bought up!
I can't afford to buy a $1000 D60 and pay to have it shipped from different places I've seen for sale. But I finally found a 92' Ford SW F350 with ofcourse a ball joint D60. I can get the front end and rear end for $800. I have read so many threads about poeple saying ball joints won't hold up on a serious trail rigg, then I find the same amount of poeple saying they've been running ball joints for a few years with 40's and no problems.

My question is should I buy the ball joint frontend and rear for $800, or wait another 2 years looking for a kingpin,(or save enough to order one)? I don't want any bullshit stories because one person is running one thing and running down another, just straight up answers please. My other qeustion is exactly how much weaker is a balljoint front end, if any? What are all the pros and cons to both? Another is I did see a couple of vendors making high steer for BJ's, do they hold up good? are they renforced strong enough? One thing I didn't find is does anyone make a 5 on 5.5 wheel conversion for the Bj's? or are they the same as a kingpin conv.? Btw I am running a 88 broncoII with a E.F.I 351, NP435,203/205, D44 front, 9" rear, with 5.13's and 38.5" boggers.

I already upgraded to Chromoly axles in the front and superjoints, but I have broken 5 stub shafts in 6 months, with a crawl ratio around 140:1 and the four speed there is no forgiveness on the axles. I don't think it would be quiet as bad with an automatic, but I am ready to upgrade to the 60. Going to the 60 I am planning on going to 42" TSL's. So what do you guys think?

It's your money, but I'd hang onto it and keep looking. The balljoints aren't a showstopper in my mind, you've got a light rig and you're breaking stub shafts not balljoints.
The bad with the SD front is the unit bearings, metric bolt pattern, and goofy hubs.

Are the 92' models metric bolt patterns and unit bearings or is it the 99' and up superduty's? I thought the early 90's were still the standard bolt pattern and had regular hubs/rotors and lockouts(or auto hubs)?

Yes... I misread your post and thought it said 02.
I'd buy the 92 axles for sure. That's good parts there.

Do you know anything about the 5 on 5.5 conversion?
