I need some help understanding how to go about looking for a short in the wiring harness. What I have is a 91 Toyota truck with a 22re and the EFI fuse blows as soon as I try to start it. I posted in the Toyota forum and the response where to check the O2 sensor for melted wires. Unfortinataley no melted wires. I guess the only thing now is to start looking for the short and I am hoping someone can tell me a logical way to begin tracking down the problem.
also while tring to start it may help to have a higher amp fuse with a hand ready to pull it out, and have another person look for a wire sarking somewhere. wait till it is dark to do this. spend a 100 bucks and buy a power probe, read the manual and get to work.
Put a light bulb in the fuse socket, either a newer domestic 3357? type with the wires pulled down and stuffed in the socket, or a bulb/socket/male spades in the socket, the bulb will light as long as fused side is shorted. Start unplugging harnesses that are EFI related and you will isolate the short once the bulb goes out. Don't forget to reconnect your connectors.
