well i just blew an axle and when i pulled everything apart i saw it was about time for a brake re-build. I wanted to see if any one had some info on a disc conversion ? do they have them? i know on the 14bolt a bunch of people have them but i have not seen a kit for the c-clip rears. Any info would be great thanks
I built my own on my 12 bolt in my Jeep.I used front D44 rotors, calipers and caliper brackets. The rotor had to be mounted on the inside of the axleflange. You will need to drill the rotor so the studs will fit.I took the stock caliper bracket and mounted it to the inside of the four bolt flange the drum brakes mount to.Used one bolt hole to locate it and welded the rest.Pull the outer bearings and seal before welding.I added a adjustable prop. valve in the rear line to help control the lock up.Works great I can lock all four tires easily.
thats what i was looking for. I know wfo concepts make a fairly cheap bracket set for the 14bolt and they give you the part numbers for the stock gm rotars and calipers. I could not track anything like that down for the 12 bolt. have you ever seen some one offer them? thanks for the help!
I bought a template off of ebay, and did this conversion on my 14 bolt. I also plan on trying it on a 12 bolt that I have out back for my next project, and it should be no different. Just remove the backing plate, and fab up a bracket and space it back enough so that the caliper lines up good. I think it will be the same.
