If I remember right a 383 is a 400 crank in a 350 block. Can't remember if the crank is turned to 350 main size ro if the block is line bored 400 mainsize. The 377 uses spacer bearings to make the difference in main sixe with the 350 crank in the 400 block.

A 383 stroker is a 400 crank with the crank turned to fit in the 350 mains. Also the block is bored .030.You use the 350 balancer and flex/fly wheel.
Another cool stroker is a 392.Same as above exept you use 327 rods and have the rod journals turned down offset to match the rod size and give a longer stroke.

there was an write up in hot rod years back

400 block
327 crank
ford I6 rods
12-13/1 compression ratio
airflow research heads

400 horse power on pump gas

something about the slower piston compressing combustion slower not causing detonation

interesting info on rod ratio vs compression
