I have a 1981 Jeep waggy it has a 360, TF727, and currently no tcase. I would like to run a np231 becuase of availibility and aftermarket parts offerings. Is this a bolt in? The 727 is 23 splind and so is NP231 but is the tranny output shaft the right length? Also is the bolt pattern correct? I would like to know before I lay out alot of money for a tcase and upgrades for it that won't work. Thanks Guys!!
Just make sure it is a 23 spline input. You could also look for a np241, which has a wider chain. I read one post about different input length and leaking, but never found anything else about that. And mine don't leak. Just search the year of transmissions and transfer cases used with the correct spline count.
OS, I did both: kind of
got rid of the chain though
