i have '79 1 ton with D60, 14bbt, np205,sm465, 350sbc. i currently have 38/15/16.5's super swamper tsl bias. i am thinking or boggers or rockers because the tsl's dont have the greatest traction i.e. gravel wet grass etc. i havent had them offroad alot due to building it up. any suggestions on tires and who is running them? will maybe go with others.
I hate bashers but your asking for it here! Tsl's are awesome tires(are yours bald) pretty much anywhere except wet pavement. and even there better than a bogger. ive had both and they are both very different in my opinion you dont have enough horsepower to make boggers work right in the mud so I would stick with the swampers. just my 2C
Also dont forget to air down big bias ply tires or you wont get any traction. Have you run any trails yet with your newly built truck? If not make some runs with your existing tires first, then you'll have a better idea as to what tire you'll need. Bias TSL's are great tires...
geez guys calm yourselves. this is the first truck ive built etc. i am eventually gonna need new tires thats why i was asking those that have more knowledge than i do. just stating that under normal conditions the lack a little bit. sure in full throttle mudd they do great
I know what you meant, just having fun with you.
The majority of those Super Swamper TSL oriented tires are going to give good traction. They are just all made to deflate quite a bit to widen the foot print.
i know i would run a tire bigger than a 38.5, when we measured my friends at 4psi (same tire as you have) they measured 36 1/4", step up to a 42 atleast if not a 44. atleast go to a 35 spline chromo outer if you havent already and go have fun.
I had a set of used tsls (about 60% in the front about 30 in the back) and thought the same as you compared to my boggers. A new set of rear tires fixed that feeling...MUCH better
Cant go off-road because your building it up? Dang, i didnt know leaf springs and a steering arm was that hard. Go buy a new set of tsl's. get new rims while your at it and ditch those awfull 16.5 rims. You probably want some radials due to your driving on lawns:shaking:
