my engine is toast, how hard is it to swap in something new, or any recommendations? or know of guide websites?

If you're swapping, I wouldn't bother putting in another 22r. At least get a 22re, if not a 7mge or something else with a little more power.

Read up on motor swaps in the toyota forum FAQ. You can put damn near any motor you want into a toyota.
