aussie locker
Newbie question sorry. I've read that lockers like the aussie, powertracs or lockright cause tire scrub and excesive wear in the front. If the hubs are not locked how can it affect tire wear? What about snow driving with a locker in front?

No, you won't get excess tire scuffing with any locker or spool running with the hubs unlocked. The hubs being unlocked disconnects the wheels from the axle shafts, so there is no way the diff can possibly affect them.
As for snow driving, a lot of people with a locker just run with one hub locked in the snow. It doesn't snow enough here for me to have first hand experience with that, but I do know that a locker tends to try to push you straight through a turn instead of turning. I've experienced it enough on dry pavement to not want to experience it in the snow. If you just run with one hub locked you'll still have one front wheel pulling you forward, but the locker won't fight you in the turns. |
