So here it is:
Been working on designing a back half for my 85 Toyota. I hate exo's immensely and an interior cage is tough because I'm taller. Is there a structural reason that when you all do your back half's that you either build a full exo or tie into an interior cage? Could door bars be done and a loop right behind the cab? and would that be strong enough? It still gives you 4 points of connection with the existing frame ( 2 from the door bars, 2 from where the frame was cut off.

I have an s10, but the concept would still be reasonably close....
the upper panel inside the cab is riveted around the doors and windows. Sometimes there is a panel that curves up above the back window, and goes from side to side inside the truck. I removed that panel, and built a hoop that was really tight fitting inside the cab, so tight that i had to wedge it in. It doesnt get in the way any more than the panel that was there originally.

I'm not really understanding why you want to get rid of the back of the frame ..
The reason why the new back of a frame is tied into an EXO or interior cage (at the top)is because you want as much vertical seperation for better leverage to the the back of the frame..... otherwise it would be cantilevered to much to take a rear impact...... Why do you not want a cage over you head? But just to support a 3 or 4 link you do not need a cage or exo or anything over your head Quote:
yes, that would be enough ...... but that sounds more ugly than an exo ??

Sorry I was unclear as to what I ment. With the loop behind the cab, I'm thinking just like an interior cage (the rear loop), just behind the cab, with the rest of a interior cage inside the cab to gain some more head clearance.
So basically just an interior cage, with the rear hoop, outside the back of the cab.
