D44 hp
Thought I'd say hi as it's been a long time since I've posted....I think this is only my 5th post now.
I had a HP D44 from a '79 Bronco dropped off at my place and I've already got it stripped down to the knuckles. Little bit more involved than I'm used to...but nothing some common sense can't help with. The only problem so far is the driver side inner bearing being seized to the spindle...we'll see what the 12T press has to say about that in a while.... I'm going to be putting it into my '97 Ranger in place of the D35 TTB. I know there's lots already written on this topic, and I have been searching already and still reading many pages. I'm doing this for more of a bullet proof front end, and to learn (this will be my first SAS). I am working out of a fab shop, with tons of experience though, so they'll stop me from doing anything too stupid. |

what specifically do you want to know? im a total retard when it comes to this stuff and did a SFA on a 93 s10 and its held up great. might want to check out one of those ranger specific sites where people do these things daily.
i googled around and found a few builds and kinda learned from them |

I'm still researching which parts I want to use and doing some reading on what is going to be required...I've got lots of questions, but many are being answered by searching all the different message boards out there....
So far the parts list is looking like this: -Cage radius arm kit for the D44 -1.5" .250" DOM tubing for the steering, and track-bar (not sure if I'm going with TRE's or heims yet) -Flat top knuckles from either a supercab ford, or a dodge ramcharger...want to keep the 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern -High steer arms - not sure who from -Either 4.56 or 4.88 gears -Eaton E-Locker -All new bearings/seals And I'll be setting up an explorer 8.8 axle so the widths match a little better and for more strenth...I don't plan on using anything more that 35's, so it'll be strong enough for what I plan on wheeling. I've gotta be careful how much I do to it, as it's also a daily driver for parts of the year... |
