Yeah you can wheel that 203 but once it gives you problems I would suggest swapping it out with a 205 before you put any money into it.
Im not sure about the feeler gauges or special tools for the th350 as I've never rebuilt one but maybe someone will chime in. |

The 203 chain will stretch out eventually and it wont work right.
a 205 is all gear driven, so it's stronger. You can get the 205 and adapter for $150 give or take a little. Wheel it till it breaks and then swap to a 205. That's what I'd do. |

Well with this and your other thread. From what I think that you are doing you will be fine. The 205's are better than a 203, but it not that a 203 is completely junk. I ran one on my race truck for years without problems, plowed snow, shoved around cars...ect.
If you are just replacing the clutches and steels in your trans then you will not need any specialy tools, a little ingenuity will get you through. If you are doing a complete rebuilt, then yes you will need some specialty tools. later jenks |

Well i am woundering weather i should take the 203 apart cause it off my truck. My brother said he put it in grear and it poped out i am just thinking that it was in far enough. Do you think it worth taking apart or should i put her back in and try it out with new gear oil.

Stock transfercase shifters for these bring the suck. They wear out over time and if you don't bunge strap them in gear they pop out. They seem to be worse in four low. You can make a twin stick or get one from ord that will solve the problem.

Each has good&bad points; 205 is stronger, 241 has lower low range.
205 is all iron case, 241 aluminum. so it really goes back to priorities and determining how you're REALLY going to use the truck. |

They aren't in every truck k5 or sub from those years but they can be found throughout those years in some of those vehicles. Usually put more in the 3/4- 1 ton trucks but in 1980 all of them had np205s. fyi

Give's more gear selection. I believe, and know that I am wrong, but i think it would give you around 4:1 low if you had both cases in low range. The crawler guys could give you a little more insight than I can.
