laptop charging with an inverter??

Whats the safe way of charging a laptop off dc+inverter, heard some stuff about the frequency fluctuation affect the hard drive???

I have a basic hp laptop i want to take on the road with me, powered by a marine optima inverted with a black n decker 750watt inverter. safe??

You aren't going to hurt anything. You know that big box on the charging cord? That's a rectify and step down transformer. Your laptop is being charged with DC voltage when plugged into a 110vac outlet Frequency isn't going to matter, nor is wave form, as long as it's somewhat consistent so the inverter can make a steady 15 or 18 or whatever voltage is required for your particular battery.

save yourself some trouble and go on ebay and pickup a dc laptop charger- you use it instead of your regular charging cable/box. That way you go straight from 12vdc to whatever vdc you need for the laptop- you just pick which voltage you need with a switch. You save a lot of power by not going from 12vdc to 120vac back to whatever vdc your laptop needs. If you are always keeping the vehicle running and charging the battery it is not much of an issue but if you want the battery to last longer w/o keeping the car running- pickup one of the generic adapters.. ~10-15 last I checked. and no I do not sell them.
