Fixing front pinion angle on 94 yota with dana 60.

I have a 94 toyota ex cab with one tons. I had a TH350 with a 208 case and my front driveline angle was pretty bad. I swapped to a 4 speed/205 case and it got worse. My old driveline won't work and I am trying to figure out what to do to fix it. I added 4* shims and it still isn't helping too much. I would love to lower the motor and tranny down to help but that would take a lot of work and I'm looking to get out wheeling in a couple of weeks. What else could I do to help fix the pinion angle? I have 5in Trail Gear Heavy Duty springs up front because of the extra weight from the v8. I was told that putting different springs with less lift will help bring the case lower and help out the angle. What springs would you guys recommend that will still hold up to the weight?

Other than changing springs and adding the shims what else could I do?

Another person at central 4wd told me that they got rid of their cv in the front driveline and they have just a u-joint on each end which allowed for more of an angle. Is this true or is it hard to do? I always thought the cv allowed for more of an angle? Thanks for any help.

You might want to check out High Angle Driveline.

It might get pretty pricey, but they could probably set you up with a front driveshaft that would work.

Thanks but I'm definitely on a budget. I am looking to spend either 100 on springs or less if I can just run u joints on each end with no cv... I looked into drivelines and it was well out of my budget lol.

cut and turn the knuckles, get rid of the shims.

The front driveline doesn't need to be as precise as far as angles go when compared to the rear. Vibration isn't usually too much of an issue unless you like to go fast in 4wd, in which case, save up for a cv

the front driveline won't even rotate all the way because the angle is that bad.
I was told you can set up both ends to just fit a u-joint. will that really work and allow for more of an angle?

you gotta get us a pic of the angle with driveline on it, otherwise you are not gonna get a good strait answer.

maybe if you put a 1410 yoke on both ends and reworked the driveshafts. The best thing to do is rotate the knuckles; that should fix most of the issues with the driveline issues and also keeps your steering semi-correct.

I'll try and get a pic up. I talked to a driveline shop about doing offset u-joints at each end. I have to go home and check the angles. I think that will be about the easiest. changing the springs and going with a shorter lift would help too right?

Yes, but if the current spring and lif setup is what you are going for then a cut and turn would be your best bet. Check out some international scout builds because just about all of them get into it at some point. If you can weld and keep everything straight an square, do it yourself. If not, pay to have it done. Not worth killing a busfull of nuns over a d-line angle

tom woods makes 10 degree off set 1350 u-joints, they help alot, about $50 each.

you wouldnt want to use them for high speed though. I run them front and rear in my comp buggy, no failures in the last year (knocking on wood)

yah I run an offset joint on the axle end of my driveline that I got from Sacramento driveline that gives an extra 10 degrees. I am talking to them about changing the tcase end of my driveline to fit another offset joint there too.
I think we're all in trouble if we run into a bus full of nuns on the trail! It is mostly going to be trailered. It is a blast to drive but cops love staring at it too much.

Thank you guys for the help. trying to work it out. I would love to turn the knuckles but I wouldn't trust myself to do it. If anyone knows someone with experience doing this in the Sacramento area I would pay someone whatever I could (which isn't much right now after spending money trying everything else lol).

And I don't mind the current lift setup but it is a little high. Nice height with the 42's but I know lower is better for crawling so it probably wouldn't hurt to lower it a little bit and run bump stops so I don't tear up my tires and fenders.

got the angles off the driveline, case, and pinion. looks like I need about 37 degrees out of the driveline...
pinion angle is 76*
Tcase is 89*
Driveline is about 36*

Let me know, if that helps with anyones suggestions about what to do... Sac driveline said the only thing they thought of was a $500 cv or rotate the knuckles. Guess its not an easy fix this time. I was hoping that an offset joint at each end would fix it but I guess not.

whats the length of the drive line? dont forget a little bit of grinding out between the ears goes a really long way in gaining angle

its just over 2 feet. Real short/steep angle. I'm going to try that when I get home and see if it helps at all. Thanks again.
