Im rebuiling an 8.1L 496 and having trouble finding torque specs for some things. Anyone know the torque specs for at least the head bolts, rod bearings, and main bearings?
thanks in advance |

That is perfect! thanks a lot.
Do you have a pic of the head bolt sequence? Also those specs for the rod and main bolts kind of make it look like they are TTY. the main and rod bearing bolts are NOT TTY correct? |

Tighten
Tighten the bolts a first pass in sequence to 30 N·m (22 lb ft) Tighten the bolts a second pass in sequence to 30 N·m (22 lb ft) then an additional 120 degrees using J 36660-A . Tighten the bolts (1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 16, 17) an additional 60 degrees, bolts (15, and 18) an additional 45 degrees, and bolts (4, 5, 12, and 13) an additional 30 degrees a final pass in sequence using J 36660-A . this is the sequence trying to get a numbered pic loaded but im a tard apprently |

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Important: When installing the piston/connecting rod assembly, NEW connecting rod nuts must be installed. |

I got my answers here faster than a trip to napa and for free . . . Just because you might have wasted your money on something like that doesnt mean others need to make the same mistakes. Forums do have a purpose other than giving trolls like you a place to bitch and moan. anyways, ARNIECHEV, thanks again for all the info |

its a forum, i dont really give a shit what you think about me, ive searched these forums and read enough on here to know what you are about . . .
you dont have anything to add to my question, so you are useless here, like you are in a lot of other places on here. Ive read things from you that were helpful, and a hell of a lot that wasnt, just like this situation. If i wanted to waste my money on a book, i would have done it already. but there is no need when there are people that are helpful and more than willing to give out the info that I, and im sure others will eventually need. this is not it. you know what I am about? do tell. you see, perception is everything to those with the eyeballs. until you stand in my shoes, you dont know shit about me. You would do well to waste money on a book. there are things in there that you can learn from. In life, education is from experience. in a book, you can actually avoid the future headaches. of course, you dont gain much in the way of experience, but a book is meant to give concrete information you can trust. I dont trust torque specs to someone that posts them on the internet. Hence my comment about 500 ft/lbs and half a turn. yes, it is a torque spec. you couldnt tell me for what, either. thats where the book comes in handy. now, be a good newbie, and go to the newbie forum where people have to be nice to your retarded ass.

you try to tell me that i dont know shit about you because i dont stand in your shoes, yet in the next line you try to tell me what would do me well. . . .
You are a hypocrite. get over yourself if you dont trust the torque specs given here then dont use them, go buy yourself that book you seem to covet instead of using the other resources at your disposal. This was a very chevy specific question, which is why i posted it here, if you dont like it, dont click on it. It would seem i asked the question in the right spot since it was answered so quickly and perfectly. Im sorry it wasnt hard core enough of a question for you. once again, get over yourself hypocrite |

where does experience come from? Bad judgment. advice given. We know youre sorry. you should try to apologize for wasting our time. Had you asked the question in the right place, you wouldnt be reading this at all. as for me being a hypocrite, perhaps your perceptional skills are lacking. After all, you did post your question in the wrong forum.

My question got answered, actually it was answered quickly, looks like the right forum to me. I guess poser shots of your rig on a dirt hill are more appropriate than a question about a chevy motor in a chevy forum.
The only time wasted here seems to be yours, I got my answer, and a nice productive member of the forum helped me out. You did get some good troll time in though so maybe this isnt time wasted for you. |
