chevy tranny ?????
I have an 84 toyota with 30" of lift. 5.29 gears, 44" tires, and a mildly built sb 350 with rv cam. Its gonna stay on the pavement! I'm looking for advice for the transmission/tcase selection. I bought a rebuilt th400 with np 208. Now I'm being told I want a 700r4 ( 1988-1991). For both overdrive and no electronic valve body. Is this correct? Anyone have any good or bad experiences to share? Which tcase do I want?

Asked for this to be moved to Newbie, because all you will get is flaming in here... But in answer to your question: A TH400 is the strongest non-overdrive trans that you can get. Keep it. If you have to have OD, get a 4L80E, the OD equivalent of the Th400. 700R4 is not a stout trans, big tires and heat will kill it quickly. As for the Tcase, get a NP205, they made factory adapters to mate the 205 and TH400. Shouldn't be hard to locate.

OP- Im going to ASSUME you arent the one that built this truck... I suggest you search around, and become more familiar with Chevy parts. They're not much good unless you understand how they work and function in the event of a break.

To those trying to help, Thank you. No I bought the truck partially finished. I'm doing the running gear and drivetrain. I've put 1 1/2 years into it with approx 1 year to go. Ye I have pics of it but hav'nt figured out how to post them yet. I'm working on it. And yes, I am familiar with chevy parts. I rebuild my own engines AND transmissions. I just thought maybe someone had some good/bad experiences that might help me. Sorry, maybe I came to the wrong website !!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the largest offroad website in the world. Your not going to find any more, nor better tech anywhere else.

the largest offroading website in the world for building extremely capable 4x4s. Were also the biggest dicks, and for good reason. Go set up your step ladder, climb in your worthless and useless truck, and take it elsewhere with your "which transmission is best for my stupid monster truck" questions
