K20 67-68, good deal?
Hi everyone,
I´m about to buy a K20, 67-68, with a 6 line engine, manual Transmission and rockwell T221 Tcase, dana44HD front and eaton (I think) rear. 8 lugs and full floating rear. Do you think is a good truck? its cheap and I want to go offroading in something that I would not be worried about breaking. probably sand and some lite muddin. Want a truck for fun. thanks a lot arriero Topic Changed.... go to the bottom and check the pictures. Weird truck, but is this a good deal? I´m not rebuilding it, just going off road and enjoy in it.... if I buy it after I put some new parts, like radiator and seatbelts.

the price, around usd800. Its cheap for Chile. For example, a suzuki samurai 1989 its around usd4000.
Davethorik, that´s what I´m afraid. weak components. I´ve heard that also, that the D44 with closed knucles and the T221 should be replaced. I´m looking for something that is not going to give me trouble. I think I´ll keep looking. I also found a 1975 K5... in about usd2000. thanks guys. arriero

my opinion, buy the K20. You will never hurt the rear end, the front will be fine unless you start rockcrawling or throw a killer engine in it. the 221, meh. it will work.
The K10 has a POS 10 bolt that might have a govbomb in it, probably has an automatic trans and the NP208 tcase. I have no problem with a 208 mind you, but they are probably not any better overall than a 221. My opinion. Do what you like and have fun!!!

again, nothing on the 84 that i would want either.
of all the possible setups you can find you are dealling with the 2 least disireable. 67 drum brake closed knuckle front. 221 tcases suck and are very hard to parts for. doubt it has power steering no power brakes. 84 weak 305/350 due to smog and tuning 700r4 and weak tcase 10b front is ok 10b rear sucks steering section of the frame sucks. go for a 69-78 3/4t, 205 tcase, th400 trans is nice, 465 spd is better.

Ok guys, ,this is what I found today:
GM12 D44 350 with 2bbl SM465 NP205 (I think) here are some pictures. And its crewcab original. 6 where built for a energy company in Chile, or at least that is what I was told. https://picasaweb.google.com/arriero4x4/K10 What do you think???? I think is a good base for a fun rig... bye arriero

that 44 and 12 bolt probably arent original. the rear end is out of a 60-72 chevy truck judging by the panhard stud on the left of the differential. That is a 2 barrel on a 4 barrel intake. Don't like the looks of the cut up bellhousing.
Overall the truck looks like somebodies parts truck that was put together with spare parts soley to sell. Not nessecarily a bad thing till you have to buy parts for it. I'd buy it if the body was decent and it was cheap. But it does kinda appear hacked together based on the pics.

I know south-america Chevy's had some weird options, was that extra-cab thing one of them? Or aftermarket?

in south america all bets are off on "standard equip and packaging"
the extra cab was a north american aftermarket thing. coil sprung 67-70 2wd rear diff. 10b front [not d44] idk wtf the "window" is cut into the bell housing for but it was done with a grinder. i dont see a 4wd engine cross member old ass spicer locking hubs on a 10b......

Well, here you wont find any V8 cheaper than that, but I have my doubts with the components... SM465 205 is great, the engine sounds good, no smoke, hubs are really old, but working... crap..... what do I do!!!....
