Opinions on Toyota drive slugs?
I just purchased a little buggy that is running Toyotas front and rear with 5.29 gears. Buggy only weighs around 2500 lbs and has 38.5 inch Maxis Creepy Crawlers. It has a Suzuki Swift GTI 1.3, Sidekick auto and a Samurai transfer with 6.4 to 1 gearing.
The Toyotas are supposed to have Longfield 30 spline Birfs , Backing plate eliminators, upgraded hub studs. I have no way of knowing if this is true, just going off what the previous owner told me. Here’s the problem, I took it out for the first time on Saturday and beat on it pretty hard. Within the first hour I it snapped the bolts on the right hand lockout, shearing it completely off. I sealed it up and drove it the rest of the day in 3 wheel drive and didn't have any further problems. I hope I didn't do any further damage than the hub, but am not sure... I don't want to just put another hub on it that will eventually fail. I am looking for advice and opinions on where I should go from here, I would think the right thing to do would be to put a slug kit in place of the hubs. If this is correct, then what kit would be best? This is my first small/light rig and I have little experience with these type rigs. I really like the buggy, and until I broke it I was very impressed with it. I want to fix it right so I don't spend another weekend just cruising instead of climbing. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

You gamble when you buy used...with a blown out hub? Nuts and bolts could of been loose?.... Nothings last forever.. Go buy another Aisin hub anyway.... So just take it all apart and check for damage....Shi* breaks And on 38"s? Pretty big for Toyota

im a fan of drive flanges, im trailor only though, i dont run a front locker also...so if you do run a locker thats not selectable (othe than air, cable or electric) then you might want the option or ability to unlock one side or the other .
