What a waste of time. The switching gear is exposed and prone to breaking when on the rear diff so putting it in front of the front diff is just plain dumb! You'd be better off with the standard front diff and fit and airlocker. They are 31 spline front standard and with cromoly CV's they are good for big HP and tyres.
All the work above doesn't solve the weakness as it is the CV's not the axles or diff. And the factory vacum locker is slow to react and has the switch very exposed (as said above).
FYI I run H233b's front and rear with 375hp at the wheels and the only thing I am worried about on my new build is actually the factory brakes. (but I'm using a Y60 axles not Y61)

I tottaly disagree, not everyone uses their car for competitions.
I think the patrol locker is one of nicest factory lockers, the only downside is how shallow the engagement is between the dog and the back of the side gear.
Yeah, holy crap that's a lot of work and expense for nothing. The locker isn't anything special in the first place, this exposes the mechanism to damage, and geez it's a lot of custom machining. ARB would be the way to go.
I wonder if the MK/MQ/160 came with a locker though. I've dreamed for years of taking the right-offset rear end from one, turning it around to face backwards, and it's an instant left-offset setup. Chop the knuckles and such off of the front axle of a GU/Y60 or GU/Y61 and graft them onto the ends of the housing along with the third and internals and you have a left-offset steering H233.
Um, Brent what he did is less work than you are talking about doing. He used a angle grinder with a cutoff wheel to take the covers off, cleaned the front housing up and welded it back on. Seems simple and easy to me, done in a couple hours at most.
If you can get the locker for cheap then why mess with the ARB? A cable linkage can easily replace that vacuum diaphragm (they do it on Mog and Volvo axles all the time) and with a little plate in the right place it's protected.
a couple of things you should know:
- used front D60 in russia cost something about 2500$
- arb locker cost 1500$ w\out comperssor but i can by Chinese clone arb locker for only 750$
- final gear 4.56 cost 500$

nissan rear axle with manual locker cost 1000$ + front axle housing 300$ with knuckler... nissan final gear 9.2" gear ratio 4.62 in stock... custom 1200$

I don't asked how it's expensive...
i ask: where i can get front axle shafts on 33 spline?
