Hey all, spend a lot of time reading here, but not writing, but I'm looking for some input on this.
I've installed a heim joint steering system in my 03 Nissan Xterra from total chaos fabrication.
The issue I have is the inner tie rod (see pic) where it connects to the centre link is fine. If the heim joint failed, there's no where the joint can go, it will remain connected, as it's sanwiched inbetween the upper and lower gusset's of the centre link.
However, the outter tie rod (see pic) has no such protection. If the heim joint failed, the socket would completely seperate causing catastophic failure of the tire assembly.
I was thinking that I need to fabricate a "C" bracket that takes the place of the upper and lower washers (see pic) to prevent a seperation of the joint from the knuckle in case of failure.
Am I being too paranoid? Should I worry? Please provide some input.
Thanks.
