I've heard really bad things about the 2005/6 Pathfinder transmissions. Are there any techs here who can tell me if the problems can be prevented? I am told that the problem arises from engine coolant mixing with the trans fluid due to faulty coolant lines. Any help is appreciated.
its not just pathfinders but on 05+ frontiers and xterra's as well
most everyone just bypasses the trans section on the radiator and run a larger transmission cooler , adding a 2nd cooler or running a fan in front of the stock cooler
I'm a nissan tech and i would suggest getting either a new radiator that has been improved (don't know any companies we just put stock rads in them) or do what was previously suggested which is take the tranny cooler lines out of the rad and use a large external trans cooler
Or run em both! Run the radiator first then run a mid to larger size trans cooler. I would suggest running a guage too. Not that hard to install. You can either drill a hole into your trans-oil pan or use a plugged "test port". I just drilled into the pan. Gives a lower reading that is what is in the drums and converter but does the job. Cheers!!
the reason to bypass the radiator is the radiator corrodes which then mixes anti-freeze into the transmission section of the radiator , now your running anti-freeze thru your transmission then you can say good bye to your trans
any chance, a person could get a smokin deal on a new nissan transmission for an 05 pathfinder with a 4.0?
I bought it today and it needs a transmission.
