Unhappy '94 truck won't start - help

Hi fellows. My first time posting in here. My uncle had a '94 truck. He couldn't start it, and he asked me to check it out. Here is what I've found out/done:

Problem: the engine crank pretty strong, just won't fire up.

Checked/Replaced:
1. I unplug the center wire on the distributor (from the coil) and hold it near the valve cover. I asked another person to turn the key. I didn't see any sparks.
2. Replace the coil with a new one.
3. New plug wires, spark plugs, and cap and rotor.
4. Spray starter fluid to the carb and crank. No fire.
5. Battery is strong.

It won't fire up! I don't know what else to look for. Appreciate any help/suggestion. Thanks.

So, you replaced the coil, does it make a spark now? If not, put the old one back on and take the new one back. Now go and read about getting the code off the computer in your shop manual, or go to a Nissan site and look under "diagnostic code", this will tell you if the computer knows what is wrong. It will be a simple flashing light on the dash, and certain flashes mean certain things, the code is written in most manuals.

OK, with the new coil, there still no spark. I don't have a shop manual. Could someone show me the way the a site on how to retreive the code?

rednekit,

What do you mean by trip the computer? Are you saying reset it?

Here you go . . . It'll be under "Engine" all the way at the bottom of the page. I haven't tried this yet (haven't had a problem), so don't know exactly how it works.

Good job Bidi, that is the whole enchilada on one page! This code stuff is a drag, but it sure makes diagnosis simple when the codes are spelled out like that. Now if it wasn't for greedy mechanix, every car and truck would come with a sheet of the codes and how to access them without a special OBD2 tool. Kudos to Nissan for letting everyone know, sure wish Chevy did that.

is there a fuse block under the hood? try a high ampp ignition fuse. maybe it is blown, newer cars usually have the higher amp fuses under the hood.

if you have not got the truck to run yet i am 95 percent sure the distributor needs to be replaced the comp. looks for a signal from the cam sensor and crank sensor witch is in the distributor thats why there is no spark

Hey the igniter is whats in the distributor, however if you go to napa and get a rebuilt dis. it is cheaper about a hundred instead of three. so if you have no spark and it is not a naps-z 8 plugs (naps z will still run because usually only on bank will die out) then it is most likely your culprit.
