Xterra/Frontier clutch question

Does the 5 speed that comes behind the 3.3 V6 have an internal or external slave cylinder?

External, bolts up with 2 bolts, the piston rod actuates the fork without bolting through. Can be removed and replaced in 5 minutes if need be.

Since it's external is the hole in the bellhousing sealed where it goes through, or is it just a rubber dust boot?

I'm curious because I recommended to someone not to shift during water crossings, but he said the xterra bellhousing is sealed. somehow i doubt that it is water tight.

There is a tight flexible rubber boot that seals between the bellhousing hole and the clutch fork. It is not completely water proof, but could be siliconed up to be. The bellhousing has a weep hole at the very front edge on the bottom (looks like a square notch in the mating face). There is a plug that comes in it from the factory but most times they fall out. There is actually a sticker on the transmission that instructs you to remove the plug after deep water crossings, but once it is removed I do not see the point, just leave it out and there will always be a place for it to drain.
